Nevil Holt Cross Country Finals: Newnham Primary School Shine at March 2025 Event!!!

On 5th March 2025, the annual Nevil Holt Cross Country Finals brought together some of the brightest young athletes from across the region. Representing the diverse and talented DRET primary and secondary schools, the students faced tough competition in a series of challenging races. Despite the intense competition, the Newnham Primary team finished with an impressive performance, securing a well-deserved third-place finish overall!!!

The event was split into several categories, and the standout performances came from the Year 3/4 Girls team, who secured an outstanding 1st place. Their determination and team spirit were evident, as they dominated the course and emerged as the top team in their age group.

Not far behind, the Year 3/4 Boys team also delivered a fantastic performance, finishing in 2nd place. Their effort and resilience helped propel them toward the top of the leaderboard, marking them as one of the strongest competitors of the day.

The Year 5/6 Girls team showed their strength as well, securing 3rd place in their race. Their focus and strategy helped them rise through the ranks, and they were able to showcase their ability against some tough competition.

The Year 5/6 Boys team, though just outside the top three, still delivered a strong effort, finishing in 4th place. Their hard work throughout the year was evident as they pushed themselves to perform at their best.

A special highlight of the day came from Savannah, a Year 1 pupil from Newnham, who was invited to be a guest runner in the Year 3/4 Girls race. Savannah had earlier come 3rd in the cross-country qualifiers held the week before, earning her the opportunity to compete in the finals. Despite racing against older competitors, Savannah put in an incredible performance, finishing 5th in the race!!! For such a young athlete, this was a remarkable achievement. Her determination and resilience were an inspiration to all, proving that age is no barrier when it comes to achieving greatness.

The event also highlighted the importance of physical education and competitive sports in the development of young minds and bodies. The Nevil Holt Cross Country Finals once again proved to be an excellent platform for students to showcase their athletic abilities while fostering teamwork and sportsmanship.

With this strong showing, Newnham Primary School are sure to remain a force to be reckoned with in future cross-country events!
