DRET Sport Health and Wellbeing Afternoon at Newnham Primary School

On January 13th, Newnham Primary School was host to a special Health and Wellbeing Afternoon, led by Mrs. Le Voi and Miss Fensome from the DRET Sport Team. The event, aimed at EYFS and Key Stage 1 pupils, focused on teaching Year 1 and Year 2 students the importance of maintaining personal hygiene and making healthy breakfast choices. This initiative was part of the school’s ongoing commitment to promoting health, wellness, and positive habits among its young learners.

As part of the Health and Wellbeing Afternoon, the pupils participated in activities designed to reinforce the importance of healthy living. For the younger students, particularly those in EYFS, these sessions focused on personal hygiene practices such as the proper way to wash hands, the importance of brushing teeth, and how these simple habits contribute to overall health. Year 1 and 2 pupils learned about the significance of a healthy breakfast, with practical tips on making nutritious food choices to start the day right.

Special highlight of the assembly was the appearance of Horizon, the DRET Sport mascot, who made a guest appearance to join in the celebrations. Horizon is always a popular figure at Newnham Primary School, known for bringing energy and enthusiasm to the students. His presence helped to motivate the pupils and added a fun, engaging element to the assembly, encouraging children to take pride in their accomplishments and to continue striving for personal success. Well done to all participants!
