Status Quo drummer gets pupils rocking to the beat

Jeff Rich, world famous drummer from Status Quo, visited pupils from the Trust’s Daventry primaries to deliver a special drumming workshop.

Newnham Primary School, The Abbey CE Academy, Falconer’s Hill Academy and Welton CE Academy not only got a first-hand insight into the music industry, they also got to play a range of different percussion instruments for themselves.

The Status Quo member, with 16 years of industry experience, also taught pupils about the history and evolution of the drums.

Marcia Mercier, Head of Enrichment for the David Ross Education Trust, said: “At DRET we are committed to providing all pupils will exceptional enrichment experiences. This was a fantastic opportunity for some of our primary pupils to learn from an iconic drummer in the music industry.”

The workshops were highly interactive and got all the pupils up on their feet to participate.

Kim Cresswell, Headteacher at Newnham Primary School, said: “The children’s faces were aglow and the rhythm rocked the whole school. Jeff was excellent in his pitch and delivery for both the older and younger pupils.

A" sincere thanks to all at DRET and to Jeff for this wonderful learning experience.”
