Pupils enlightened by puppetry workshop

Pupils from Newnham Primary School explored the wonder of puppetry at a workshop organised by the Royal and Derngate in Northampton.

The children from Reception, Year One and Year Two took part in the workshop, following a visit to see ‘The Wind in the Willows’ over Christmas.

Mr Mead, class teacher. said: “They all absolutely loved the workshop and working with the puppeteer. I think many of the children couldn’t wait to get home and start coming up with their own puppets and shows so it is nice to see their enthusiasm.”

The opportunity was funded by the David Ross Education Trust, who aim to provide pupils across the network with outstanding enrichment opportunities.

Mr Mead added: “The puppeteers had us do other activities such as making voices and coming up with scenarios for the characters they had created, like creating little plays.

“It ties in with the work we are doing in class which is all about using light and dark and the effects you can get.”
