First chicks hatch at Newnham!
This week the first three chicks hatched at Newnham Primary School.
The children have been looking after the eggs in an egg incubator since the beginning of term. The children saw the eggs move and heard chirping before the first egg hatched on Monday morning.
Although the first chick one looked very wet, weak and disorientated he managed to stand on his feet.
The first chick was not alone for long as the second one hatched in the afternoon.
Unfortunately, the third chick could not make it out of the shell. The staff and pupils helped by peeling off shell around the head area in the hope that chick would have enough remaining energy to survive. You can see the membrane that has sustained it through its growth and development.
We keep our fingers crossed for this one, developments to follow.
