Come dine with Newnham

Children at Newnham Primary School have been learning about food groups and were challenged to compile a healthy menu of food to serve as a treat on the last day of term.

All of the children in KS2 worked together to suggest various healthy options and then decide on the final menu for all to share and enjoy.

Much of the food was kindly donated by Daventry Waitrose store, which enabled the teachers to serve two courses to all of year 3,4,5 and 6 children who prepared and cooked the food in groups during the morning.

The menu consisted of freshly baked bread and home -made carrot and coriander soup. A variety of homemade quiches with both vegetable and meat fillings and a tasty salad with freshly made dressings to choose from.

Kim Cresswell, Headteacher, said: “The learning experience was a huge success and will provide the children with the skills to produce nourishing, tasty and healthy meals at home. Every scrap of the delicious meal was eaten and very much enjoyed by both pupils and teachers.”
