At Newnham we take part in a broad range of sports and we have a fantastic sporting ethos. Our teachers are confident and experienced in providing exciting and stimulating lessons for all children. There are also a number of experts that give both children and staff ideas and practical experience to help develop particular sports. We specialise in football, rugby, judo and swimming and we provide extra curricular content in all of these.

Competition in sport is very important to us as we regualry take part in many varied events. This is with both DRET funded competitions and Daventry Sports Partnership competitions. We have school teams for football, rugby, netball, cross country and athletics. Plus we take part in a number of other sports too. These include big events such as the DRET Winter and Summer Cup, where we compete against schools from around the country. The children are also inspired to participate in sport as they are given the opportunity to meet professional sportsmen and women from many different sports.

We have a well established Judo club that caters for children from Reception to Year 6. Children from Years 1-6 are taken swimming at Daventry Leisure Centre for weekly lessons throughout the year. This means that we have a number of confident, able swimmers by the time they reach KS2. In addition children take part in award schemes for cycle training.

During our yearly residential visits and day visits we have given the children sporting experiences such as climbing, abseiling, canoeing, raft building, problem solving, night walking, mountain walking, caving and team building.

We also encourage children to join clubs outside of school and we have links with teams in the local area.

Our sports facilities include a hard surface area for games such as netball, hockey and basketball, a large field which is marked out for football or track athletics and an indoor hall in which there is a climbing frame, a set of ropes and other apparatus.
