SEND Information

At Newnham Primary School we welcome all children and families.

Newnham SEN Information Report

Our Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Coordinator (SENDCo) is Mrs. Jo Whiting. All the staff at Newnham Primary School are trained to look out for any special needs for the children in their care and to support them through ‘Quality First’ teaching.

The teaching and support staff at Newnham have a range of have expertise and experience in areas of special needs. Staff are trained in the Read, Write, Inc. Phonics Programme, Talk for Writing and Effective Maths, ongoing professional development continues throughout the year with these approaches to teaching as well as in recognising and managing various special educational needs.

As of September 2018, we have 6 children receiving special needs support. The planning and teaching of the children with special needs is monitored by senior members of staff in consultation with the teachers, children and children’s parents and carers.

Lots of thought, planning and preparation goes into using our support staff to ensure children achieve the best academic outcomes, gain independence and are prepared for learning in the future from the earliest possible age.

Teaching Assistants are used in the classrooms where support is most needed. They also carry out 1:1 and small group interventions as well as supporting in class.

We have prepared a full report covering the whole range of our SEND work which is available at the left-hand side of this page.

If you have a question or need a solution to any issue or problem regarding your child, we request that you contact Mrs. Whiting, the SENDCo or Mr. Johnson, the Headteacher, who will arrange to meet you as soon as possible.

If, after speaking to them, you feel that they have not sorted out your query or complaint to your satisfaction, then please follow the DRET complaints procedure.

This year we have had no complaints.

Our SEND Information Report is available for download at the left-hand side of the page.
